The second week and third were more fun than the first and faster too. There were various competitions including dance, drama, poetry, sports, cooking competitions and so on.
I had made a resolution to be more open and daring, so I decided to join my Platoon for drama competition. Honestly, I never believed I could, but I joined anyway. We did a mini audition and I got the lead role to play one spoilt in the abroad brat 😂😂. Look at God!
We later changed the drama though, but I got to play another exciting role ; Iya Lode of Akuku kingdom 🙈.. dont laugh…no, seriously, do not laugh. 😑
That week, we also had our man of war activities. People of God, one thing you should know about this drill is; everyone has one pathological fear “Let not my khaki tear!” 😖
Since the day the video of one corp member went viral because her khaki tore at the buttocks as she tried to climb the ropes, everybody has been cautious, nobody wants to trend for such an embarrassing experience. 😑
I appear calm in that picture. But let me tell you what happened exactly. You see that jump, I never made it! I just stood there, analyzed my life… “what if I jump and I fall and my brains scatter all over? Then they will just call my mother and be like, “sorry ma, your daughter couldn’t make it out of camp.” What if I had just mistakenly insulted somebody’s child before this drill? Then I will just stroll straight to hell…😭😭 And I have not even blown yet😭😭! Hei God! As I stood there and analyzed my life, I started to cry😢. They kuku just told me to come down. 😐. If I hear pim🙄! Have you not heard that 🎤Big girls cry when their hearts are broken?🎵
I actually did all the others .except all those scary rope climbs😚 I couldnt risk my khaki tearing, because it was tight at the leg…and yes, because I was scared too. 😑
My Platoon was famous for loosing competitions back to back! Except the drama ofs cos, 💁 we got to the finals, but we still came last at the finals 😂. Talk about keeping a legacy😎. It actually got to a point, we did not even stress ourselves anymore, we already knew our fate. When they call out for the 10th position, we shouted, platoon 1! We were shameless like that. 😊
The day before camp ended, my village people showed up!😩 In full force!
We were supposed to go out for an address by the state coordinator, but local girl and some of her rebel roommates were feeling rebellious so we convinced ourselves that we were too tired to go, and moreover, the soldiers would not come to check. We closed the door so they wouldn’t know we were inside.
After a while, somebody sent a text and picture to one of my roommates that they were bringing people out from the hostel! 😱 It was boarding school all over again! We jumped and started looking for where to hide!
One of my roommates now mentioned that her parents had told her they dreamt about something like this happening to her in camp! Hei Chineke!🙆 You could imagine our fear! Because what an old man sees sitting down, we in all our glory did not see it while we were snoring! If found out, we were at very high risk of being decamped! Sweet baby girl like me! I am finished! 😭
As we were scrambling for solutions and where to hide, the soldier entered! Oti pari o! 🙆
We were ordered to step out to the parade ground they took our tags and ordered us to sit on the floor.
I had never felt more like a rebel in my entire life. They threatened us with all sorts of things! I felt my chi had truly deserted me 😢.
After going through terrible emotional distress and jogging round camp, my village people were finally put to shame! Instead of decamping, we were made to sweep the parade ground. Pheeew that was close!😌
Ehen, One more thing you should know about Lagos camp is, towards the end, camp becomes really interesting, with celebrities and different brands coming to camp and sharing loads of goodies.
Did you enjoy the series? Let me know in the comment section! 😁
